Culture
It is a Buddhist kingdom but is open to other religions and offers full freedom to those who would like to practice them inside the kingdom. The culture in Bhutan is a blend of Buddhism and Bonism traditions. Outside some Bhutanese houses it is very common to see Giant Phalluses painted onto walls to keep the evil spirits away and ensure a positive environment.Dzongkha is the official language. Other languages spoken include Sharcop Kha, Nepali and English. Even though English is taught as the primary language in schools, more emphasis is put on learning Dzongkha. People commonly wear traditional Bhutanese dress.
Pang Lhabsol - This festival actually celebrates the Independence Day of India. The people of Sikkim on behalf of our country seek God's blessings on this day.
History
Let us dive into the creation of the present day kingdom and the stories that happened until now. In 1907 Ugyen Wangchuk was elected king of Bhutan. Then in 1910 Bhutan and Britain signed a treaty. Britain agreed not to interfere in the internal affairs of Bhutan as long as the Bhutanese accepted British advice on its external relations. In 1947 India became independent. In 1949 India signed a treaty with Bhutan. India agreed not to interfere in Bhutanese affairs as long as Bhutan accepted Indian advice on its internal affairs.
